On February 26, 2014, Sequoia Hospital’s Heart and Vascular Institute and HeartValveSurgery.com hosted a live, online webinar to educate patients about the anatomy, the causes, the symptoms, the risks and the treatment of heart valve disease. Most importantly, the webinar addressed the experience of cardiac surgery from the patient perspective — before, during and after a heart valve procedure.
The featured speakers of the event included Dr. Luis Castro, a leading cardiac surgeon who has performed over 3,000 heart valve procedures, and Adam Pick, a former double heart valve surgery patient who founded HeartValveSurgery.com.
“The response to this webinar was extraordinary with over 250 patient and caregiver registrations,” noted Pick. “This 53-page eBook will further expand the global reach of this wonderful event – helping patient in countries all over the world.”
During the webinar, Dr. Castro provided a comprehensive overview of heart valve disease including other cardiac conditions including coronary artery disease, aortic aneurysms and atrial fibrillation. In addition, Dr. Castro and Pick engaged in a meaningful conversation about patient expectations throughout the surgical process from diagnosis to recovery. The webinar concluded with a live, ten-minute “Questions & Answers” session among the webinar hosts and over 100 attendees who joined the online event.
“I’m very hopeful this webinar will help educate patients about heart valve surgery and their journey to becoming healthy again,” noted Dr. Castro. “I encourage all patients with heart valve disorders to download the free eBook.”
